I was recently asked by Baking Mad if I would make some of their Halloween Cupcakes, of course I agreed, who doesn’t love a cupcake? I had no doubt that they wouldn’t last long in this house!
I used one of the recipes from the Halloween baking section and they were absolutely delicious, really light and fluffy – Sophie tried one and immediately asked for more, I am pretty sure she would have eaten the whole lot if I had let her. I found the recipes were more than generous and I managed 18 large cupcakes out of the mixture – whereas I sometimes find the guidelines on amounts aren’t too accurate. I did however have quite a bit of butter cream icing left over.

They have loads of great ideas for decorating, such as pumpkins, ghosts and bats, however I like to get Sophie involved, so I used funky Halloween cupcake cases and put some orange food colouring in my buttercream icing and will then let her get on with decorating them using a variety of different toppings – I took a photo of them before as they would be a total mess afterwards – but she loves doing them so at least they will have fun!
I love being able to let her loose in the kitchen, she loves helping me with baking or cooking and I find its such a good way to teach her about food without her even realising! The Baking Mad website contains loads of really simple ideas that you can use with your children – we are having a spooky Halloween tea on Thursday, so I think we will give some of these yummy Halloween biscuits a go too! Sophie loves being able to cut out cookies and when the oven timer starts beeping, she rushes into the kitchen to look at her bakes – she does make me laugh!
