Ascot Family Day – Sophie’s first visit to the races

I have always loved horses, right from being small I was around them. I got my first pony when I was 7 and it appears that my love for all things equine has been passed along to my daughter too! She has no fear and loves nothing more than giving her friend Hopper (who happens to be a 17hh ex racehorse!) a big cuddle. She loves to sit on him and will shout him to come to her across the field, so going to Ascot Family Day was a big treat for her!Ascot family day

Michael and I have often visited our local racecourse pre-Sophie, which is relatively small, so I certainly wasn’t expecting anything as huge or as grand as Ascot! I have to admit I was a bit overwhelmed by the sheer size of it, it really is amazing and a must visit for any racing fan!

There were just 6 races on Saturday as part of the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup. As much as I love horses, I know very little about horse racing, so I always leave the betting to Michael – hes not an expert himself, but he always seems to pick the right horse! He managed to win on a couple of the horses.

The highlight of my day however was meeting up with the lovely Carolin from Mummy Alarm! Our girls hit it off immediately and had a great day playing together. We also bumped into Tanya from Mummy Barrow – it was brilliant to finally meet some of my favourite bloggers!

All in all we had a fantastic day at the races. There was loads for the children to do, with a soft play area, colouring, fairground rides and of course the horses. All this was followed by a concert held in the Old Paddock, which really took me back listening to Blue, Atomic Kitten and Rick Astley!
